Most people confuse global stability with core stability. The ability to balance on a fit ball for example may not mean you have good core stability. It does mean however that you have good balance which can be achieved with stimulating your reflexes and strengthening your antigravity muscles. Core stability training is about the specific reactivation of the transversus abdominus and multifidus muscles that act as a protective corset for your spine. Your Physio can assess for the presence of this type of stability and retrain if necessary. info@www.cityphysio.biz |

High Heels can be... Good for You!
Ok we all know that high heels are supposed to bad for you but what if you are height challenged, need to wear heels for work, or with that great outfit…..?? Good news is that if you choose wisely—ie shoes that don’t squish your toes— wear those shock absorbing cushions for the metatarsal heads— heels are actually a great way to get your butt working and stimulate your balance reactions. In my clinical experience I have found that people with lower limb alignment problems actually improve when they put their heels back on— a good research project? Word of warning—you must learn to walk in heels properly. LL

CITY PHYSIO has purchased an ultrasound machine that helps people retrain their core stabilizers. Most importantly it helps people understand what they are trying to achieve with this type of muscle retraining. Being able to see and feel their muscles activating simultaneously ensures that they leave the clinic knowing exactly what they need to do to correctly activate the core muscles.
